History
Glaister Ennor has its origins in 1907 when it was founded by WDM (Murray) Glaister who was subsequently joined in partnership in 1918 by RW McConnell. This was to be a brief partnership as Mr McConnell died in the great flu epidemic of 1918/19.
Just after the First World War, he was joined by Harrold Ennor, a former Assistant Commissioner of Stamp Duties.
John Kiff joined the firm in the 1930s, and when he became a partner some years later, the name of the firm changed to Glaister Ennor & Kiff. In 1937 (the year the first Municipal Bus Terminal opened at Britomart), the firm moved from Endeans Building in Queen Street to its present location, on the corner of Vulcan Lane & High Street.
When Robert (Bob) Narev, the firm’s present Chairman, joined Glaister Ennor & Kiff in 1956, the firm occupied one third of the top floor of Norfolk House at 18 High Street, then known as Safe Deposit Building. Safe deposit boxes in the basement area were leased to local businesses. Today, with 10 partners and over 80 staff, Glaister Ennor occupies all 4 floors of the building.
In 1947 Stuart Ennor joined the firm, its first litigation partner. Stuart, who sadly died in 1999, helped the firm to develop a strong litigation reputation, and represented both the Auckland and New Zealand Law Societies for many years. The firm still acts for the Auckland Society in a number of areas.
There has always been a strong loyalty to the firm and mutual respect among the partners. This is evidenced by the fact that a previous generation of partners and also one of the existing partners each served the firm for periods approaching 50 years.
Glaister Ennor centenary book

Glaister Ennor has produced a book celebrating our centenary. The book charts the history of the firm since it was founded in 1907 by Murray Glaister alongside the growth of Auckland itself. These 100 years are captured in a collection of striking photographs.
